Gearing Up: The Fire Within is the story of a fourteen year old boy who left home - 1500 hundred miles away - at the age of eleven to come to Mumbai (Bombay) and pursue his dream of playing cricket for India - alone in a city of 18 million and commuting two hours to school everyday. The film follows his - and his teammates' - trials and tribulations as he gears up for the biggest cricketing event of the calendar year, one that is crucial to his chances of fulfilling his dreams. Gearing Up examines the passion, determination and ambition of the youth in what is now the youngest country in the world (60 % of Indians are less than 25 years old) and sheds some light on the dreams and desires of new India as it grapples with opportunity, attention and competition. On another level, the film explores the complex interplay between the individual and the team in a team sport like cricket and the very nature of sporting heroism.
